Gray, also known as Grey, is the end state of Chess. Black and White combine to produce a homogenous, uniform substance with gray color and no texture. It is analogous to the heat death of the universe in our own world and is inevitable, even in non-timed games. This state is implicitly reached following a stalemate by both players, but is usually not shown due to the frequent psychological distress of seeing one's own pieces reach maximum entropy.
